Why Leave the House?

Tuesday "Tegan and Sara" performed a free show at Amoeba Records on Sunset Blvd. Arriving two hours early netted us a spot on the balcony (Used DVD's A-F) instead of the coveted front row (Used Rock). The resulting inpersonal nature of the show left me prone to distraction. So, I scanned the audience for signs of life and instead noticed maybe 25 people in the process of recording the show on cell phones or digital cameras. Of course youtube now turns up a dozen videos of the same show and all were met with much appreciation.
So, what is it about portable video recorders and youtube that makes people need to share?

I think it mostly may be due to the fact that they're not sharing it with the "world" per say, but just using youtube and other like sites as a tool to share their experiences with people closer to them. Most people still don't know how to put up there own videos in any other manner.
YouTube has a distinct advantage among video sites of working with nearly 100% of machines out there. Although the implementation of Flash under OS X leaves much to be desired, it still works. C.B. I like how you mention that it is more about sharing with friends then with the world. I feel like there are two types of youtuers out there, 1) They want to be Internet famous 2) They want to share their unique (or sometimes not so unique) experiences with others. I think that I fall in the second category. Judge for yourself, www.youtube.com/driftlive
